The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has approved the extension of the curfew imposed on 10 local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park.
The development was confirmed in a statement on Thursday by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde.
Naijaonpoint reports that the curfew will now continue until Saturday, June 27, 2026.
Recall that the Oyo State government had initially announced that the curfew, which took effect on Wednesday, 24th June, would run from 4 pm to 8 am for 48 hours in the first instance.
The curfew was announced to tackle kidnapping and other security challenges in the area.
With the latest extension, the curfew will now continue until Saturday, June 27, 2026.
The affected local government areas are Oriire Local Government Area, with its headquarters in Ikoyi-Ile; Orelope Local Government Area, headquartered in Igboho; Irepo Local Government Area, headquartered in Kisi; Saki West Local Government Area, headquartered in Saki; Saki East Local Government Area, headquartered in Ago-Amodu; Atisbo Local Government Area, with headquarters in Tede/Ago-Are; Itesiwaju Local Government Area, headquartered in Otu; Iseyin Local Government Area, headquartered in Iseyin; Olorunsogo Local Government Area, headquartered in Igbeti; and Atiba Local Government Area, with its headquarters in Offa-Meta, Oyo.
Meanwhile, the state government has not yet announced any further changes to the restrictions beyond the newly approved extension.
