Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, has dismissed the political threat posed by Labour Party’s Peter Obi, insisting that the former Anambra governor is “no longer a nightmare” to the President.
Speaking on Mic On Podcast, Dare argued that the Tinubu administration’s performance has shifted the political landscape since the 2023 general election.
“Maybe before Peter Obi was a threat. Right now, Peter Obi is no threat because we stand on solid ground of performance,” he said.
According to Dare, the government has taken decisive steps to address Nigeria’s challenges through policies and reforms, giving it a scorecard that speaks for itself.
He went further to describe Obi as “a n¥isance” rather than a political nightmare, criticising the former presidential candidate’s public engagements.
“Peter Obi is not a nightmare. Maybe you’ll replace nightmare with a n¥isance,” Dare said, adding that some of Obi’s reactions and interviews are “very pedantic.”
“They ask him a question and he goes in a roundabout direction that does not make sense,” he stated.
When reminded that Obi defeated Tinubu in Lagos State during the 2023 presidential election, Dare insisted the political reality has changed.
“That was 2023. We’re talking about 2026,” he said.
Asked if he believed Obi could repeat the feat in a future election, Dare replied emphatically: “No. It won’t happen again.”
He maintained that the Tinubu administration is focused on delivering the Renewed Hope agenda rather than worrying about political opponents.
