Manchester City have confirmed that England midfielder Phil Foden has signed a new long-term contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2030.
The 26-year-old’s previous deal was due to expire next summer, but the Premier League champions have moved to secure the future of one of their academy graduates with a fresh agreement.
Foden has developed into one of City’s most influential players since progressing through the club’s youth system and making his senior debut.
The England international has enjoyed sustained success with City, helping the club win multiple domestic honours while playing a central role in one of the most successful periods in its history.
According to Sky Sports News, the new contract reflects City’s commitment to building the team around established stars as preparations continue for future campaigns.
The announcement comes weeks after Foden was surprisingly omitted from England’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup by head coach Thomas Tuchel.
The decision was not linked to injury, with Tuchel instead citing form, tactical considerations and squad balance, having previously suggested the midfielder had struggled to translate his performances in training into competitive matches.
Speaking after signing the new deal, Foden described extending his stay as a dream come true.
“Committing my future to City means everything to me.
“Playing for this Club is all I’ve ever wanted to do, and it’s always an honour to wear the shirt.
“It’s not lost on me that I’ve been lucky enough to be part of a historic period with so many titles won, but we’re always looking to the future and trying to win more.
“I can only thank the Club, staff, team-mates and fans who continue to put their faith in me and trust that I give everything I can for City, and I hope I’ll be able to repay you for years to come.”
Foden also welcomed the opportunity to work again with Enzo, describing the returning coach as a respected figure within the dressing room.
“I can’t wait to work with Enzo again. He was brilliant during the Treble season – someone all the players respected and loved working with.
“To have him back here is exciting.
“Personally, I know I’ve improved so much from working with our coaches and world-class squad, and as many of the legends who were here when I first broke through move on, I am excited for the next phase of my career at this great Club.”
