The Edo Community in Kano on Friday conferred the traditional title of Oshiozoya I on chartered accountant and community leader, Kadiri Mohammed, FCA, in recognition of his contributions to the community’s welfare and development.
SolaceBase reports that the colourful ceremony, held at the palace of the Enogie of Edo in Kano shortly after the Juma’at prayer, attracted community leaders, traditional titleholders, family members, and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate the recipient.
Speaking at the event, the Enogie II (Sarkin Edo-Kano), His Highness Deacon Fred Edozele Akhigbe, JP, said the title was bestowed on Mohammed because of his commitment to serving the Edo Community.
According to the traditional ruler, the conferment was in line with the responsibility entrusted to him after he was honoured by the Emir of Kano, which included identifying deserving individuals for traditional recognition.
“We are here to celebrate one of our own whom we found worthy of this title. This title is not just for decoration; it is meant for service to the people and the community,” Akhigbe said.

He explained that the title of Oshiozoya I carries the responsibility of promoting the welfare of the Edo Community in Kano and beyond, adding that Mohammed had already demonstrated leadership and dedication through his selfless service.
“We have advised him to continue the good work he has been doing. Whenever the community needs representation before the government, the Emir’s palace or any other authority, he should be ready to serve,” he added.
Also speaking, a senior chief and respected elder of the Edo Community in Kano, Chief Abdulkarim Yakubu, described the event as part of the community’s tradition of recognising outstanding individuals who distinguish themselves through service.
He said Mohammed had earned the honour because of his integrity, generosity and active participation in community affairs.
“He is a man who gives and never neglects his responsibilities to the Edo Community. That is why he is qualified for this chieftaincy title,” Yakubu said.
Responding, the celebrant expressed gratitude to the community for the honour, describing the recognition as both humbling and a call to greater responsibility.
Mohammed said the title would inspire him to intensify his efforts in serving his people.

“I am very happy and delighted. This honour means I have to do even more for my community,” he said.
He added that being considered for such a prestigious title at a relatively young age was a privilege he would never take for granted.
“I am very grateful. It is not easy for one’s community to consider someone for this kind of honour, especially at my age. I will cherish it and continue to give my best,” he said.
His wife, Medina Kadiri, also expressed joy over the conferment, saying she believed the honour would bring greater opportunities and responsibilities for her husband.
She pledged her support despite the demands that come with public service, praying that Allah grants him wisdom, protection and greater success in his career and service to the community.
“I pray that Allah continues to bless him, protect him and open more doors for him. May He grant him success in all that he does,” she said.
