The self-styled Director-General of the ‘non-existent’ Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeniyi Adeyemi, has been arrested.
NAIJAONPOINT reports that his arrest comes moments after Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja issued a warrant for his arrest following an oral application by the prosecution.
Arguments made by Adeyemi’s lawyer over his client’s absence was waved by the court.
The defence lawyer said his client was absent from court because he feared for his life and that he had written a letter to President Bola Tinubu regarding it.
He added that Adeyemi intended to stay alive to face his trial.
But Justice Umar responded by telling the lawyer that the court would “help him to be alive.”
The judge then issued a bench warrant for Adeyemi’s arrest.
The judge set 30 September as the new date for his arraignment.
Footage of his arrest, sighted by NAIJAONPOINT, showed police officers asking him about his name. He declined to answer on the grounds that he had earlier responded to the question.
However, it remains unclear if Adeyemi voluntarily turned himself in to the police or was arrested.
Adeyemi faces eight-count charges relating to the running and operation of a purported PFIPC, an agency the Presidency has said does not exist.
