The Police Command in Enugu State has detained an armed robbery and cultism suspect, while recovering some exhibits in the state.
In a statement on Saturday in Enugu, the Command’s Spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe, said that operatives recovered one silver-coloured gun-like object allegedly used by the suspect to rob unsuspecting members of the public.
Ndukwe said that one dagger, 10 wraps of substance suspected to be methamphetamine, and one sachet containing substance suspected to be cannabis sativa were recovered from the suspect.
He noted that command operatives attached to Anti-Cultism Sub-Unit of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), on May 26 at about 8:30p.m., achieved the feat while acting on credible intelligence.
He said that the operatives stormed a black spot at the New Artisan area of Enugu and detained one Joseph Osani, 28, of Premier Layout, Enugu.
The spokesman said that the suspect confessed to being a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity.
“A discreet investigation into the case is ongoing to unravel other criminal networks linked to the suspect and ensure diligent prosecution,” he said.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Mamman Giwa, also reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements.
The commissioner urged residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and supportive of the police through the provision of credible and timely information. (NAN)
