The Zamfara State Police Command has arrested two suspects and recovered 55 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition during a stop-and-search operation in Anka Local Government Area of the state.
The command said the suspects were arrested on Monday, July 27, 2026, by a joint security team comprising personnel of the Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Community Protection Guard (CPG).
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, the team intercepted a Volkswagen Golf III vehicle along the Anka–Bagega Road during the operation.
The vehicle, driven by Abubakar Rilwanu, a resident of Bagega, was searched and 55 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition concealed in a polythene bag were recovered.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the ammunition belonged to Rabiu Mohammed, a passenger from Jambako in Maradun Local Government Area.
The police said Mohammed confessed to collecting the ammunition from Dodori Village in Gwandu Local Government Area of Kebbi State and was transporting it to a suspect identified as Oliya, who is currently at large.
The two suspects are in police custody and undergoing investigation, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect and dismantle the suspected criminal network.
The Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, CP A. M. Bello, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling illegal arms proliferation and urged residents to provide security agencies with credible information to support efforts to protect lives and property.
