Police Arrest Two Suspected Armed Robbers in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered a Lexus RX350 Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) allegedly stolen at gunpoint in Akure, following what the command described as an intelligence-led operation.

According to the police, the robbery occurred on July 23, 2026, at about 8:40 p.m. at Advic Resort in Alagbaka, Akure, where armed men reportedly attacked a victim, identified as Yemi Adeyemi, and made away with his Lexus RX350 SUV.

The victim reported the incident to the Akure Area Command on July 24, prompting detectives to launch an investigation that combined intelligence gathering and strategic field operations.

Police said the stolen vehicle was later recovered intact on the outskirts of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) Ondo Campus axis, where it had been abandoned.

The investigation reportedly led to the arrest of two suspectson July 25.

Preliminary findings, according to the police, indicate that the suspects are members of a criminal syndicate allegedly involved in armed robbery operations within and outside Ondo State.

The command said the suspects confessed to their involvement during interrogation.

A subsequent search of their hideouts allegedly led to the recovery of a stun gun loaded with one rubber bullet, a jerk knife and the victim’s iPhone 13 Pro Max.

The recovered items are being held as exhibits while forensic and technical investigations continue.

The state commissioner of Police , Felix Ohagwu commended the operatives of the Akure Area Command for what he described as their professionalism and resilience, noting that the successful operation reflects the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and proactive crime prevention.

He said investigations are ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the syndicate, recover additional exhibits and ensure that all those connected to the alleged criminal operation are brought to justice.
