The Nigeria Police Force has initiated proceedings before its Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC) to review pending cases involving 167 senior officers accused of breaches of professional conduct and related offences.
The exercise, currently underway at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, is part of ongoing institutional reforms aimed at strengthening internal accountability, enforcing discipline, and upholding professional standards within the Force.
In a statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, described the FDC as a critical internal mechanism mandated to review and determine disciplinary cases involving officers from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and above. He stressed that the process is designed to ensure a transparent and fair examination of all cases in line with extant laws and regulations, with recommendations forwarded to the Police Service Commission for final action.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to discipline, integrity, and professionalism, noting that no officer found culpable of misconduct will be shielded from due process. He emphasized that the disciplinary proceedings form part of broader reforms to strengthen internal control mechanisms, promote ethical conduct, and enhance public confidence in the Police.
