Gunmen suspected to be bandits have abducted a Kebbi State High Court Judge, Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza, from his residence in Bunza Local Government Area of the state.

A reliable source said the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday at the judge’s residence along Zogirma Road in Bunza.

According to the source, Justice Bunza had just returned from Sokoto when the armed men stormed his residence and whisked him away.

The source added that although the attackers fired sporadically during the operation, no member of the judge’s family or household was injured.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Kebbi State Command, SP Bashir Usman, said the judge was abducted around midnight.

He disclosed that upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Muhammad Hadejia, immediately deployed tactical and intelligence teams to track down the abductors and secure the judge’s safe release.

A senior official of the Kebbi State High Court, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the incident as a painful and disturbing development for the judiciary.

The official further disclosed that the management of the Kebbi State High Court had already met with heads of security agencies in the state to strategize on measures aimed at ensuring the judge’s immediate and safe release.

Security operatives have since intensified search operations in the area as efforts continue to rescue Justice Bunza and apprehend those responsible for the abduction.
