Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have launched a major offensive against four notorious terrorist kingpins—Dogo Gide, Najaja, Nasanda and Buba Oris—in Zamfara State, disrupting a planned mass movement of armed fighters and killing scores of terrorists.
Military sources said the operation followed credible intelligence received on July 25 that hundreds of armed terrorists had assembled along the Bayarzaki Riverline in Anka Local Government Area under the command of the four leaders.
The intelligence indicated that the fighters were preparing coordinated attacks across parts of Zamfara and neighbouring states.
In response, troops carried out precision air strikes on terrorist positions at Barayan Zaki and key crossing points along the Bayarzaki Riverline.
At the same time, personnel of the 8 Division Strike Force positioned ambush teams before launching follow-up ground operations to intercept the fleeing terrorists.
The coordinated assault disrupted the terrorists’ movement, forcing them to retreat towards Barayan Zaki while attempting to cross the Gummi–Anka Main Supply Route.
Troops pursued the fleeing fighters, leading to a fierce gun battle at Kombo High Ground along the Anka–Gummi road in Bukkuyum Local Government Area.
According to the sources, soldiers overwhelmed the terrorists with sustained firepower, killing scores of them and forcing the survivors to flee into nearby forests.
One soldier sustained injuries during the operation and was evacuated to the General Hospital in Anka for treatment.
No military equipment was lost.
During follow-up clearance operations on July 26, troops recovered 13 rounds of PKT machine gun ammunition and one machine gun round while maintaining patrols to prevent the terrorists from regrouping.
Military sources said Operation FANSAN YAMMA continues to intensify intelligence-led air and ground operations across the North-West to dismantle terrorist networks, restrict the movement of bandit leaders and prevent attacks on communities and security formations.
The latest offensive is seen as a significant setback for some of the region’s most wanted terrorist commanders, including Dogo Gide, as security forces sustain pressure to restore stability across Zamfara and neighbouring states.
