President John Dramani Mahama has taken part personally in the nationwide clean-up exercise on Friday, joining officials and residents at Tse Addo in the Greater Accra Region, where he was seen picking up a spade to help clear waste from a roadside gutter.
The President’s hands-on participation forms part of the two-day National General Cleaning Days he declared for July 10 and 11, aimed at desilting drains and clearing debris across seven regions affected by recent flooding.
He was joined at the site by senior military officers, security personnel, and government officials, several of whom were seen participating directly in the clearing work alongside him.
His visit to Tse Addo comes as part of a broader directive requiring all government appointees, including ministers of state, Members of Parliament, and heads of public institutions, to leave their offices and lead clean-up activities within their communities during the exercise.
The clean-up follows deadly flooding that struck Accra and other parts of the country on June 29, killing at least 12 people and affecting close to 39,000 residents, with widespread damage to homes, businesses, and public infrastructure.
Friday’s activities were primarily geared toward government workers, with Saturday, July 11, set aside for broader public participation across the affected regions.
