Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has demonstrated sincerity in ongoing efforts to reconcile with members of the political group he previously fell out with.
Wike made the statement on Monday during an interview on TVC News’ Journalists’ Hangout, while responding to questions on the reconciliation between Fubara and members of the political group now associated with the Rainbow Coalition.
Fubara had recently said he had “returned home” and was effectively part of the Rainbow Coalition.
Commenting on the reconciliation process, Wike said he had no reason to doubt the governor’s sincerity, noting that both sides had reached agreements on certain issues.
“As far as I’m concerned, I want to tell you that I don’t have any doubt that the governor is not sincere. I don’t have any doubt. We have met and we have agreed on certain things,” Wike said.

According to him, Fubara had also fulfilled an agreement to submit the names of members of his team who would form part of the campaign council.
Wike said the reconciliation process would take time, particularly for supporters of the governor who may not have immediately accepted the new political arrangement.
He urged such supporters to be given time to adjust and understand the need to work together.
“Whether some of the supporters have come out and said, okay, we have agreed to whatever you have said, some have done that, but you still give them time. It’s not easy,” he said.
The FCT Minister said he expected the supporters to eventually embrace the reconciliation.
“I think they will all come back and they understand that we should work together,” he said.
Wike also commended Fubara for his role in the reconciliation process, saying he had not seen any indication that the governor was deviating from the agreements reached.
“So for the governor, I can say you’ve done well and I’ve not seen any sign that he’s not aligned to what you said,” Wike said.
Wike had recently declared that the political feud with Fubara was over, saying the governor had agreed to return to the political family that supported his emergence as governor in 2023.
The relationship between the two men deteriorated shortly after Fubara assumed office, leading to a prolonged political crisis in the state.
The crisis resulted in impeachment proceedings initiated against Fubara by lawmakers loyal to Wike and eventually contributed to President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a six-month state of emergency in Rivers State.
The two camps later reached a truce, with Fubara joining the APC and aligning with the Wike-backed Rainbow Coalition.
