Vice President Kashim Shettima has called for a renewed national covenant on peace, saying lasting peace requires a shared commitment by government, community leaders and citizens.
Speaking on Saturday in Jos during the 80th birthday celebration and public presentation of the autobiography of former Plateau State Governor, Senator Jonah David Jang, Shettima said peace remains the foundation for national development.
“A people at peace is the highest achievement of any government because peace is the soil in which every other blessing grows,” the Vice President said.
Conveying President Bola Tinubu’s goodwill and prayers to the celebrant, Shettima reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to building a Nigeria where security underpins economic opportunity and every citizen feels a sense of belonging regardless of where they live.
He urged Nigerians to reject ethnic profiling, religious intolerance, misinformation and retaliatory violence, stressing that national unity is essential to achieving sustainable peace and prosperity.
“We must reject ethnic profiling, religious hatred, misinformation and retaliatory violence if we are to build a secure, inclusive and prosperous federation,” he said.
Shettima said the Tinubu administration remained committed to promoting peace, strengthening national cohesion and creating an environment where security and economic growth can flourish across the country.
