Supreme Court Slams Ibadan Judgment Upholding PDP Convention

The Supreme Court has described the Oyo State High Court order, which upheld the 2025 Ibadan convention relied upon by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as “forum shopping” and “disgraceful.”

According to the Supreme Court, this matter is also about the order by Justice James Omotosho restraining the PDP from going ahead with its national convention of November 15 2025, in Ibadan.

The judgment in the appeal filed by the Turaki-led faction was decided by a five-member panel of justices, led by Justice Mohammed Garba.

The Supreme Court also held by a 3-2 majority judgment that the convention went on in disobedience to a valid court order.

The lead judgment was read by Justice Chioma Nwosu-Iheme and was supported by Justices Garba Lawal and Stephen Adah.

This majority judgement, like the earlier judgement, maintained that since a valid court judgement had been given by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, restricting the PDP from going ahead with the proposed convention, the party ought to obey that order.

Justice Nwosu-Iheme described the court order by the Oyo State high court, which the PDP relied upon to go ahead with the convention, as “forum shopping” and “disgraceful”.

She frowned against some judges and lawyers who provide their platform and services for politicians to engage in forum shopping instead of obeying valid orders of court.
