A video has surfaced online showing a suspect allegedly linked to the theft of transformer fuses and copper wires, an act that could have plunged an entire community into darkness, being subjected to a harsh punishment shortly after his arrest.
According to reports, the man was apprehended while allegedly attempting to make away with the items, prompting swift intervention from residents determined to protect their electricity supply.
Theft of transformer components has become a growing concern in many communities, often leading to prolonged power outages and costly repairs.
Once caught, area boys reportedly decided to deal with him themselves before handing him over to the appropriate authorities.
In the video, the suspect is seen struggling to lift a heavy concrete block above his head as onlookers watched on. His body visibly shook under the strain until he eventually collapsed to the ground, unable to hold the weight any longer.
Rather than let him rest, those around him reportedly forced him back onto his feet and made him pick the block up again, ignoring his pleas as he begged for mercy. The punishment continued for a while, with the suspect clearly exhausted and in visible distress throughout the ordeal.
The video has stirred mixed reactions online, with some justifying the community’s actions given the disruptive nature of the alleged crime, while others have expressed concern over the harshness of the punishment and the continued rise of mob justice in place of formal police action.
It is not yet clear whether the suspect was eventually handed over to the police for further investigation.
