Political commentator Dr. Nnaemeka Onyeka has criticised the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, over his repeated attacks on Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, arguing that the South-East should not be divided by political interests.
Speaking in a viral interview, Onyeka compared the political atmosphere in the South-East with that of the North, claiming that northern political leaders do not publicly attack former Vice President Atiku Abubakar the way some South-East politicians criticise Peter Obi.
According to him:
“There are three major candidates: President Tinubu, Peter Obi of the NDC, and Atiku Abubakar of the ADC. You will never see northern governors or ministers in Tinubu’s cabinet attacking Atiku, but in the South East, you see former governors and others, especially Dave Umahi, always going after Peter Obi.”
Questioning Umahi’s political influence in the region, he added:
“He even calls himself the Lion of the South East—on what basis? Look at the coastal road he built; there is flooding everywhere in Lagos. If tomorrow former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Dave Umahi were on the ballot, Igbos would never vote for Umahi because they know him.”
His remarks have sparked mixed reactions on social media.
