A teenage girl arrested after the deaths of her parents in Groningen reportedly sent photos of their bodies to others through WhatsApp before she was taken into custody, according to reports by De Telegraaf.
The bodies of Johan and Mathilda, both aged 53, were discovered inside their home in Meerstad, a residential area near Groningen, early Thursday morning. Their daughter, who is now reported to be 15 years old, was arrested shortly afterwards.
A student who claimed to have seen the photos told De Telegraaf that the images showed the couple covered in blood and included a knife.
Other students at Vaklyceum Montessori school reportedly said they had seen the images or knew people who had received them.
Reports also claim that some classmates had noticed changes in the girl’s behaviour and said she had been struggling with personal issues.
Some students said she had asked to be addressed with male pronouns, while others claimed she identified as a dog. They also said she had been absent from school for a long period.
Neighbours described the family as kind and caring but said they had noticed unusual behaviour from the girl. One neighbour told local media that she had seen the teenager walking outside late at night or sitting quietly on the roof of a shed.
The family had reportedly recently sold their home for almost €500,000 and were preparing to move to a larger property nearby.
Authorities have not confirmed how police were alerted. Some locals believe the girl contacted emergency services herself, while others suggested a school friend who received the WhatsApp images may have reported the incident.
Police have not released further details about the investigation but have asked anyone with relevant information or images connected to the case to contact them.
