Tension is fever pitch in Dunukofia/Njikoka/Anaocha Federal Constituency where the result of last Saturday’s primary election is feared being subverted.
The problem began following the election in Njikoka local government which is part of the federal constituency where Chief Tochukwu George Ibekie polled 8,972 votes against his closest rival Prince Chukwudi Oli who polled 2,082 votes.
Ibekie hails from Dunukofia local government, the least populated of the three local government areas that make up the federal constituency.
However, realising that the Njikoka local government results upstaged a preferred aspirant, the election results is yet to be announced with some party officials calling for cancellation of results of some of the wards in Njikoka and a call for re-run.
Following the development the traditional ruler of Nawgu, His Royal Majesty, Igwe George Okaa-Onwuogu in Dunukofia local government area where Ibekie hails from has raised alarm urging Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo to avert the planned injustice the action will bring.
In a letter he personally signed with his palace secretary Ichie Anselem Okonkwo, and dated May 25, Igwe Onwuogu reminded Soludo that Ibekie won the primary election for the 2023 election but was denied ticket.
Ibekie was asked to wait and that he has won again and it is not proper and in the interest of justice and fair play that he is denied ticket once more.
He urged Soludo “to allow our subject to contest the 2027 election with APGA ticket as he is capable and financially buoyant to win the Dunukofia/Njikoka/Anaocha Federal Constituency election in 2027”.
Meanwhile, uncertainty continues to hover over the fate of the primary election result of the constituency.
