For decades, the United States and the United Kingdom have been among the most preferred destinations for Indian students seeking careers in the technology sector. The US is home to Silicon Valley, the world’s largest technology hub, while the UK has long served as a base for companies operating across Europe.
Many Indian students have traditionally believed that studying in these countries would provide a direct pathway into their job markets. However, changing immigration policies and increasingly strict visa regulations have made both admission and post-study employment more challenging than before.
As a result, students are now exploring alternative destinations that offer strong technology industries, better job opportunities, and clearer pathways to long-term residency. Among them, Ireland is rapidly gaining attention.
Ireland emerging as Europe’s new tech hub
Study abroad expert Manisha Javeri says Ireland has evolved into one of Europe’s fastest-growing technology hubs and offers promising opportunities for long-term employment and permanent residency.

Study abroad advisor Aritra Ghoshal shares a similar view and points out that demand remains particularly high in several technology-related fields, increasing the chances of employment for graduates.
Following Brexit, a number of multinational companies shifted parts of their operations from the UK to Ireland. As a result, Dublin has transformed into a major technology centre and is now home to the European headquarters of several global firms, including Google, Meta and Microsoft.
The country’s growing tech ecosystem has also attracted large numbers of students pursuing degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), many of whom find employment opportunities soon after graduation.

Speaking to Navbharat Times, Career Mosaic Joint Managing Director and study abroad expert Manisha Javeri said Ireland continues to strengthen its position as one of Europe’s most attractive destinations for technology professionals.

‘Ireland is consistently establishing itself as one of the best destinations in Europe for technical talent. It hosts the European headquarters of several major technology companies and offers an innovation-driven environment,’ she said.
According to Javeri, some of the most promising sectors for employment include Software Engineering, Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Analytics and Cybersecurity.
She added that post-study work opportunities and relatively straightforward immigration pathways have made Ireland increasingly attractive for international students looking to build long-term careers.
How does the path to permanent residency work?
Javeri noted that Ireland faces significant demand for skilled professionals in areas such as Software Development, Cloud and DevOps Engineering, Data Science, AI and Cybersecurity.
Many of these occupations qualify under Ireland’s Critical Skills Employment Permit programme, which allows skilled workers to remain employed in the country for longer periods and can eventually support applications for long-term residency.

Javeri advised students to approach Ireland’s job market with realistic expectations.

According to her, competition for entry-level technology positions has increased, particularly for graduates who do not have prior work experience within European markets.
She stressed that while opportunities remain strong, students must focus on building relevant skills and industry knowledge to improve their employability.
Which tech skills are most in demand?
When asked whether certain technology roles are more likely to lead to work visa sponsorship, study abroad advisor Aritra Ghoshal highlighted several high-demand sectors.
‘Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing and Software Engineering continue to be among the most sought-after fields. These sectors are receiving significant investment globally and are considered crucial to Ireland’s economy,’ he said.
However, Ghoshal cautioned students against making visa sponsorship their primary objective.
‘Companies sponsor work visas only when they cannot find suitable talent locally and believe that a candidate offers exceptional value to their organisation,’ he explained.
He added that students with skills in high-demand sectors generally find it easier to secure employment. Rather than focusing solely on sponsorship opportunities, students should concentrate on developing expertise in areas that are expected to remain in demand for years to come.
