Three Rubbish Collectors Caught On Camera In The Middle Of Highway Dumping Refuse Into Gutter

Three men have been captured in broad daylight tipping what appeared to be waste from a tricycle straight into a drain running alongside a busy highway, an act that continues despite mounting warnings against such dumping in the wake of recent flooding in Accra.

In the footage, the men can be seen working together to hoist a large, bulging sack off the tricycle and heave it over the edge into the gutter below, seemingly indifferent to passing vehicles and onlookers nearby.

Construction workers in reflective vests and hard hats stood just meters away on the same road, going about their own work as the dumping unfolded in plain view.

The act comes at a time when authorities have explicitly classified the dumping of refuse into gutters as a criminal offence, a response to the devastating floods that swept through parts of Accra after drains became clogged with exactly this kind of waste.

Yet for these three men, the warning appeared to carry little weight, their actions playing out without hesitation or any apparent concern for who might be watching.

Residents who have grown increasingly frustrated with such behavior say scenes like this help explain why the city’s drainage systems keep failing whenever the rains come, regardless of how loudly the warnings are issued afterward.
