President Bola Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, resulting in the exit of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa.
In a memo issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, the President directed that Edun be replaced by Taiwo Oyedele, who has now been elevated to the position of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele previously served as Minister of State in the ministry.
The memo also announced the nomination of Muttaqha Rabe Darma as Minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, following the directive that Dangiwa hand over to the Minister of State pending the completion of formal processes.
According to the directive, all handing-over procedures are to be concluded on or before April 23, 2026.
The presidency said the changes are part of efforts to strengthen governance and improve policy delivery, particularly in the economic sector.
“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Akume stated.
He added that the reshuffle was carried out in line with the President’s constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
President Tinubu also commended the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavours, while assuring that efforts to reposition the cabinet for greater efficiency would continue.
The development marks the latest adjustment in the administration’s bid to recalibrate its economic and governance strategy under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
