President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has defended his administration’s economic reforms, saying the policies introduced over the past three years are beginning to produce positive results for the country.
In his Eid-el-Kabir message released on Tuesday ahead of the Sallah celebration, Tinubu said although the reforms were difficult, they were necessary to build a stronger economy and secure a better future for Nigerians.
According to the President, the sacrifices made by citizens and the government were gradually paying off as the economy becomes more stable.
“The reforms we have undertaken are challenging but necessary to build a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria for future generations,” he said.
Tinubu added that the country was now becoming a preferred investment destination capable of driving economic growth and job creation.
Since assuming office, the administration has introduced major economic policies, including the removal of petrol subsidy and the floating of the naira as part of efforts to reform the foreign exchange market.
The policies, however, led to a sharp increase in inflation, food prices and transportation costs across the country.
Despite the hardship, the Federal Government has maintained that the reforms were necessary to stabilise the economy and free up funds for critical sectors such as healthcare, education and infrastructure.
The President also addressed the security challenges facing parts of the country, including terrorism, banditry and kidnappings.
He acknowledged that attacks on communities were still occurring despite efforts by security agencies to tackle insecurity.
“I assure you: you are neither abandoned nor forgotten. We will ultimately defeat all the forces of evil,” Tinubu said.
He urged Nigerians to embrace the values of sacrifice, compassion, unity and peace associated with Eid-el-Kabir.
Tinubu also called on Muslims to pray for the nation and support vulnerable persons during the festive period.
“My administration remains committed to building a Nigeria where all citizens can live in peace, worship freely, and pursue their dreams without fear,” he added.
