President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerians to embrace tolerance, generosity and peaceful coexistence as Muslims across the country celebrate Eid-el-Kabir.
The President made the call on Wednesday after observing the Eid congregational prayers at Dodan Barracks in Lagos.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Wednesday, May 27.
Tinubu urged citizens to reject ethnic divisions, hatred and intolerance, stressing that the country’s diversity should remain a source of strength and unity.

“We thank Almighty Allah for making us witness another year of Eid-el-Kabir. We thank Him for His mercy, and we must learn from this season’s lessons, namely, showing love to one another. No discrimination, no ethnicity, no hatred; we should share love and be generous to one another in a way that reflects the values of our country and humanity,” he said.
“It is essential that we should be very tolerant and obedient to the wishes of Allah and the rule of law, which must guide our society.”
The President described Eid-el-Kabir as a reminder of obedience, sacrifice, compassion and submission to the will of God, as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim.
He added that no political, ethnic or religious differences should override the collective aspiration for peace, development and national progress.
Tinubu also urged Nigerians to extend kindness to the less privileged and respect the sanctity of human life, noting that criminality and violence have no place in any religion.
“Nowhere in the holy teachings does it say you should engage in banditry or take a human life. The sacrifice we speak of, even from the beginning of life, where we take these lessons, teaches us that a child was replaced with an animal. That is the value placed on human life,” the President stated.
Among dignitaries who joined the President for the prayers were the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat; former governor Babatunde Raji Fashola; the Rilwan Akiolu; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
In his sermon, the Grand Chief Imam of Lagos State, Sheikh Sulaimon Abou-Nolla, urged Muslims to uphold the values of sacrifice, unity and generosity in line with Islamic teachings.
