Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan will face a major test on Thursday when she lines up against United States Olympic champion Masai Russell in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Weltklasse Diamond League meeting in Zurich, Switzerland.
The meeting is the final Wanda Diamond League event of the season before next month’s series final in Brussels, Belgium, with Amusan looking to strengthen her position among the leading athletes.
The Zurich event began on Wednesday with the women’s pole vault competition at Zurich Main Station, while the main programme will take place at Letzigrund Stadium on Thursday.
Amusan will be seeking a strong response after settling for bronze at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, where her time of 12.60 seconds ended her hopes of winning a third consecutive Commonwealth title following her triumphs in 2018 and 2022.

She will face stiff competition from Russell, Danielle Williams and home favourite Ditaji Kambundji.
Russell enters the contest on a strong run of form, having recorded a 12.14-second performance in Xiamen in May, just 0.02 seconds outside Amusan’s world record.
World Athletics said in its preview that Russell “will aim to maintain her season-long win streak in the 100m hurdles,” adding that she will face “world record-holder Tobi Amusan, Alaysha Johnson, Nadine Visser and home favourite Ditaji Kambundji.”
Two other Nigerians will also compete in Zurich, with Ezekiel Nathaniel entered in the 400m hurdles and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi set to feature in the shot put.
