Visitors at the Adjikpo Waterfall in Ghana have been left frightened after a snake was spotted crossing the water while some of them were swimming.
In a video circulating online, the visitors are seen reacting with fear after noticing the snake moving through the river. Some immediately stopped swimming and appeared ready to leave the water.
However, a tourist guide at the site quickly intervened and urged them to remain calm.
“It’s not going to bite you,” the guide told the frightened visitors as he encouraged them to keep their composure.
The snake continued moving through the water as the visitors watched, eventually crossing the river without attacking or disturbing anyone.
The unusual encounter has generated reactions online, particularly because of the guide’s calm response despite having a snake swimming in the same water as the tourists.
Adjikpo, a suburb of Somanya in the Yilo Krobo Municipality, is home to a recently identified waterfall that has been recognised by the municipal authorities as one of the area’s tourism attractions.
There are also local traditional beliefs surrounding some snakes found around water bodies, and some people who shared the video claimed that the particular snake was regarded as a goddess or spiritual guardian of the river.
