Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled an attempted attack by the Lakurawa Terrorist Group on a community in Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The troops reportedly acted on credible intelligence indicating that the terrorists were moving towards Ugwan Hassan village to launch an attack.
A military source said the troops quickly mobilised and laid a tactical ambush at a known crossing point near the community.
The troops subsequently engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abandon their mission and retreat into the surrounding area.
Following the encounter, the troops recovered two motorcycles, mobile phones, T&T communication radios and a Nigerien national identity card allegedly belonging to one of the fleeing terrorists.
The identity document was reportedly linked to a Nigerien national from the Tillabéri Region of the Niger Republic, highlighting the cross-border dimension of security threats along communities bordering Niger.
The troops have intensified patrols in the area and continued efforts to track the fleeing terrorists and prevent them from regrouping.
The operation is aimed at protecting residents of Dandi and neighbouring communities from further attacks.
