The Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State has screened 47 aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The State Chairman, Pharmacist Samaila Adamu Burga, announced the figures during a press conference at the party’s Yandoka Road Secretariat, Bauchi.
According to him, the screened Aspirants include one Gubernatorial aspirant, 3 Senatorial aspirants, 12 House of Representatives aspirants and 31 State House of Assembly.
Burga declared his faction as the only authentic leadership of the PDP in Bauchi State and warned that individuals purchasing nomination forms from rival factions have wasted their money and will not be recognised.
“This faction is the authentic one, and anyone who purchased a nomination form from any other faction has just wasted his or her money as such cannot be recognised.
“Very soon, we will conduct the party primaries where our candidates will emerge and effectively participate in the 2027 general elections in the State.”
“Whatever is happening at the national level does not have a significant impact on the 26 States and Zones where congresses were duly conducted, monitored and supervised by the concerned authorities.
“Yes, the Ibadan National Convention was nullified while the Supreme Court upheld the suspension of some former national leaders of the party, but we are the main leaders of the PDP.”
“As far as we are concerned, there is no faction in the PDP, those you are referring to are no longer members of the PDP as they have been suspended and the Supreme Court has confirmed it.”
“Nyesom Wike is the leader of those people, but his son and associates are contesting in the APC, he is struggling to have an APC man as the next Governor of Rivers State. You can now understand that there is a problem somewhere,” he said.
He dismissed the impact of national leadership crises on the state chapters and stated that the party’s congresses across 26 states and zones were legally conducted and supervised by relevant authorities.
Burga addressed the ongoing national leadership friction, downplaying rival groups within the party.
He argued that rival actors are no longer valid PDP members due to Supreme Court-upheld suspensions and maintained all factional activities align with the 1999 Constitution, the Electoral Act 2026, and the PDP Constitution.
Burga praised a Federal High Court ruling affirming former President Goodluck Jonathan’s constitutional right to run for the presidency.
The chairman assured supporters that party primaries will commence soon and expressed confidence that the PDP remains Nigeria’s strongest opposition party and will form the federal government in 2027.
