Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has called on the Nigeria Police Force to prioritise professionalism, neutrality and impartiality ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Uzodimma made the call at the 6th Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers (CARSPO 2026), held at the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Convention Centre in Owerri.
The governor said professionalism remained critical to restoring public confidence in the police and securing greater cooperation from citizens.
He urged the police to strengthen intelligence-led policing, embrace digital technology, improve inter-agency coordination and prioritise effective information management, particularly as the country prepares for the 2027 elections.
Uzodimma stressed that citizens must be able to exercise their civic responsibilities without fear, noting that neutrality and impartiality were essential to achieving this.
He also commended the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, for what he described as his transformative drive, while advocating decentralised policing, including the establishment of State Police.
However, the governor said adequate safeguards would be necessary to prevent the structure from being abused for political purposes.
Uzodimma assured security agencies of his administration’s continued support, particularly in the areas of logistics, welfare and operational requirements needed to maintain peace and security across Imo State.
