Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has been spotted among senior government officials taking part in the first day of Ghana’s nationwide clean-up exercise, joining efforts at Nungua Market in the Greater Accra Region on Friday.
The Vice President was seen actively participating in the exercise alongside the Greater Accra Regional Minister and other ministers, wielding cleaning tools as security personnel, officials, and market cleanup crews worked together to clear debris in the area.
Her participation forms part of the two-day National General Cleaning Days declared by President John Dramani Mahama for July 10 and 11, aimed at desilting drains and clearing refuse across seven regions affected by recent flooding.
The President had directed all government appointees, including ministers of state, Members of Parliament, and heads of public institutions, to leave their offices and lead clean-up activities in their respective communities.
Friday’s activities were primarily aimed at government workers, with Saturday set aside for broader public participation.
Nungua Market was among the numerous locations targeted in Greater Accra as part of the exercise, which follows deadly flooding on June 29 that claimed at least 12 lives and affected close to 39,000 people across the region.
The Vice President’s visible participation has been noted online as consistent with the government’s messaging urging officials to lead by example during the exercise.
