Who is Sriram Krishnan? Trump’s Indian-origin AI advisor set to leave White House, has this special connection with Chennai

Indian-American tech expert Sriram Krishnan, one of the highest-profile figures in the Trump administration, announced that he will step down from his role at the White House at the end of June. In a statement on X, he said that after a short break, he will return to work to address key challenges related to Artificial Intelligence that is facing the United States.

“I’ll be leaving my role at the White House at the end of this month. After a break, I’ll be working on helping tackle some of the large challenges facing America on AI,” Krishnan wrote. Meanwhile, he stated that serving the Americans under President Donald Trump has been the greatest honor of his life and also described his government service as “the privilege of a lifetime.” “Without his leadership, we would not be leading in the AI race,” he said.

Who is Sriram Krishnan?

Indian-origin Sriram Krishnan has emerged as one of the most influential voices on AI policy within the Trump administration. He became a prominent link between Silicon Valley and the United States technology agenda after being appointed as a Chief Strategist for AI policy during Trump’s second term.

An Indian-American businessman and tech executive, Krishnan had held senior product and leadership roles at big firms such as Microsoft, X, Meta, and Snap. He is also renowned as an investor and commentator on emerging technologies.

His connection to India

The Trump administration appointed Sriram Krishnan as Senior AI Policy Advisor at the White House. Born in Chennai, he attended SRM Engineering College.

Krishnan thanks White House AI and crypto adviser

Krishnan thanked White House AI and crypto adviser David Sacks, stating, “His continuing advocacy for America winning on AI has been and continues to be crucial.” Meanwhile, he highlighted multiple initiatives, including architecting & publishing the Trump administration’s US AI Action Plan, which he said he helped develop during his term of office. These also include helping advance AI acceleration partnerships aimed at strengthening the United States AI ecosystem worldwide and contributing to the National AI Policy Framework executive order. 

Looking ahead, Krishnan said AI’s rapid evolution poses policy and infrastructure challenges. “The past 18 months have given me a front row seat to this critical moment on AI facing America and our allies. Whether it is energy, data centers, or a clear path for Americans to experience the benefits of AI, there are many tough issues we all need to navigate together,” he said.
