The Chief Executive Officer of Winhomes, Stella Okengwu, has shared her personal experience meeting Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, during the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81) in New York.
Okengwu said the encounter gave her a different perspective of the Vice President, particularly his willingness to listen and engage on issues affecting investment and the Nigerian diaspora.
According to her, their discussion focused on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), the Nigerian diaspora, the South-East and the challenges faced by Nigerians seeking to bring investment opportunities into the country.
She said what stood out most from the encounter was Shettima’s patience, humility and compassion during their conversation.
“Sometimes you meet the office. Sometimes you meet the human being behind the office. At UNGA 81, I encountered both,” Okengwu said.
The Winhomes CEO noted that her assessment was based on her personal interaction with the Vice President rather than political sentiment.
She also commented on Shettima’s energetic nature, observing that the Vice President “hardly walks to his meetings” but practically runs, which she described as a reflection of his energy and sense of urgency.
Okengwu said Nigerians in the diaspora were willing to invest, build and contribute to the country’s development, but stressed that invitations to invest must be supported by confidence, protection and concrete action.
“When leaders listen, trust begins. When institutions act, investment follows,” she said.
She expressed optimism about Nigeria’s prospects, concluding with a call for the success and progress of the country.
