A woman has appealed to the Imo State Government and members of the public for help after river erosion threatened to destroy her family’s house.
A video shared via X by Somto Okonkwo(@General_Somto), on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, shows the woman appealing for urgent intervention as erosion continues to threaten the property.
The woman said the house represents years of financial sacrifice by her father and the entire family, who contributed what they could towards its construction.
“I’m calling on the government of Imo State. I’m calling on everybody, anyone that can help at this point in time because I don’t know what to do,” she said.
“This is my dad’s sweat, not just my dad’s sweat, my entire family’s sweat that is going down the drain like this that is caused by this natural disaster.”
She explained that the family had spent years building the house because of financial difficulties, but the erosion now threatens to take the property away.
“They called it river erosion. This is a house we’ve been building for so long. It was not supposed to take this long but because of a lot of problems, we were just putting two and two together, ₦100,000, ₦50,000, ₦20,000 anyhow,
Then after building this house, erosion wants to take it away from us.” She said.
According to the woman, the family contacted an engineer who assessed the situation and estimated that ₦10.5 million would be needed to change the direction of the river.
“We’ve called the engineer, and they’ve made estimates of how much it’s going to take because they said this is actually possible to fix this problem but it will cost a lot of money,” she said.
“The amount is ₦10.5 million to change the direction of the river.” She said.
The woman also appealed to social media personality VeryDarkMan and others who could assist, saying her father had become exhausted by the situation.
“At this point, I’m calling on everybody. I’m calling on VDM, Tunde Ednut too, anybody that can help, please,” she said.
