Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Governorship and National Assembly Screening Committee, Farouk Aliyu, says consensus does not prevent other candidates from running.
Aliyu stated this on Monday during a live appearance in an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Morning Show’.
He stated that if there are contending opinions regarding consensus, direct primaries will be used in those instances.
“The idea of a consensus candidate does not preclude anyone else from running. Nobody will be excluded.
“The consensus candidates does not preclude anybody who does not agree. Now let’s talk about Nasarawa State, and in other states, the governor has his preferred candidate. That does not mean other candidates will not go for election.
“The Governor is just one person, and then some stakeholders that have agreed that Mr. A is our preferred candidate. Now if in the wisdom of other contestants, they don’t agree with that, certainly direct primary will be implemented.
“So nobody is going to be excluded, that I assure you. Not only in Lagos, Nasarawa, Gombe and so many states where the governors have put forward their preferred candidates. That does not mean nobody would be allowed to contest,” he said.
