The People’s Redemption Party (PRP) has officially cleared three aspirants to contest in its presidential primary election scheduled for May 25, 2026, as preparations continue ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
The approved aspirants are Dr. Nnaoke Ufere from Abia State, Engr. (Dr.) Yakubu Mohammed Kingsley from Edo State, and former Cross River State governor, Donald Duke.
In a statement issued on Saturday, PRP National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Muhammed Ishaq, said the screening and clearance process was completed in line with the party’s guidelines and commitment to internal democracy.
According to him, the three aspirants have accepted the party’s rules and agreed to allow delegates and members determine who emerges as the party’s presidential candidate during the primary exercise.
The party stressed that it remains committed to conducting a transparent, credible and inclusive process that gives every aspirant a fair opportunity to compete.
PRP also disclosed that more than 260 aspirants are expected to participate in various elective positions across the country under its platform.
Ishaq explained that strengthening internal democracy remains one of the party’s major goals as it prepares for future elections.
He noted that the leadership wants to ensure the nomination process reflects the wishes of party members and builds confidence among supporters.
The spokesperson further stated that where consensus among contestants is not achieved, the party will proceed with competitive primaries in accordance with its constitution and electoral guidelines.
Political observers are expected to closely monitor the presidential primary, particularly because it will test the party’s organisational strength and readiness ahead of the 2027 general election season.
The emergence of a presidential candidate after the exercise is expected to shape PRP’s campaign direction and strategy as political activities gradually intensify across the country.
