Students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, have issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the Ondo State Government to resolve the ongoing industrial action disrupting academic activities across the state.
The students, under the leadership of the Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba-Akoko Students’ Union Government, continued their peaceful protest on Friday, moving the protest secretariat to the university’s main gate.
In a statement signed by the Students’ Union President, Folagbade Greatness Ayoola, General Secretary Amos Oluwatiimileyin and Public Relations Officer Omomowo Timilehin Ayomi, the students said the prolonged industrial action was affecting their academic plans and future.
The union said the ultimatum was intended to push the state government towards taking “concrete and decisive steps” to secure an immediate resolution of the dispute and address the concerns of affected students.
It stressed that the action was not intended to threaten or confront the government but to draw urgent attention to the impact of the industrial action on students.
The union said, “This 72-hour period is not intended as a threat or an act of hostility towards the Ondo State Government. Rather, it is a peaceful call to action, an opportunity for meaningful dialogue, and a firm expression of the urgency of the situation.”

It added that failure to reach a satisfactory resolution within the period would lead to the relocation of the protest from Akungba-Akoko to Akure, the state capital.
“Should there be no satisfactory and concrete resolution within the stipulated 72 hours, the Students’ Union Government, in the continued exercise of its legitimate right to peaceful demonstration and civic engagement, shall move the secretariat of the Students’ Union from Akungba-Akoko to Akure, the Ondo State capital, to continue the peaceful demonstration and further present the concerns of students to the State Government.”
The students said the proposed escalation would remain peaceful and within the law, stressing that their demands centred on dialogue, accountability and the restoration of academic stability.
“Our decision to move the protest to Akure will be carried out peacefully, responsibly, and within the bounds of the law. We seek dialogue, accountability, resolution, and the restoration of academic stability—not confrontation or violence.”
The union also appealed to the Ondo State Government and other stakeholders to engage with students and their representatives in good faith to end the industrial action.
It urged students involved in the protest to remain disciplined and united throughout the process, saying, “Our strength lies not in violence, but in our unity, our voice, our courage, and our commitment to the future of every student affected by this crisis.”
