An aspirant for the Ogun State governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abayomi Hunye, has called for the cancellation of the party’s primary election ahead of the 2027 general election.
Hunye said the primary election was full of irregularities and should be declared invalid. He questioned how he was given zero votes while the incumbent senator representing Ogun West, Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), was declared the winner.
Speaking at a press conference in Abeokuta, Hunye said he and his supporters were present across the state’s 236 wards and 20 local government areas during the election. He argued that it was impossible for him to receive no votes.
He also alleged that many of his supporters were intimidated, beaten, arrested, and prevented from voting during the exercise.
Following the announcement of the results, Hunye filed a case at the Federal High Court in Abuja, asking the court to cancel the primary election.
According to him, some APC leaders had earlier pressured him not to contest against Adeola. He claimed they warned him that every effort would be made to stop his ambition if he refused to step down.
Hunye said he heard rumours before the election that he would be awarded zero votes, and that the final result matched those rumours.
He insisted that his conscience could not be bought and vowed to continue his legal challenge. According to him, no genuine primary election took place in Ogun State, as the results were allegedly written without allowing party members to vote.
He maintained that the election should be cancelled and a fresh primary conducted, expressing confidence that the court would deliver justice.
