Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar recorded a convincing win in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primaries in Kano State.
According to results declared by the Chairman of the electoral committee, Dr John Ayuba, Atiku secured 155,595 votes, while Mohammed Hayatu-Deen followed with 15,914 votes, and Rotimi Amaechi polled 9,994 votes.
Naijaonpoint reports that Ayuba explained that the primary election exercise was conducted in all 44 local government areas and 484 wards of the state.
He added that the figures would be transmitted to the party’s National Coalition Centre in Abuja for final ratification and official declaration of the flag bearer.
He urged members of the party to remain united and work towards producing Nigeria’s next president.
Meanwhile, the party has suspended the announcement of results for the governorship primaries in Kano pending a decision by the national leadership.
The contest is between Ibrahim Ali Amin Little and Malam Ibrahim Khalil, with the party considering a consensus arrangement to determine its candidate.
In another development, one of the presidential aspirants in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has disclosed his intention to snub the party’s final announcement of primary election results.
In a post on social media, Hayatu-Deen wrote: “I will not be attending the announcement of the ADC Presidential Election Results today.
“I am concerned by reports from across the country of widespread vote rigging, some of which I myself observed, and will therefore be taking advice on my next steps.”
