One of the governorship aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State, Abdulkadir Hamma Saleh, has rejected the emergence of the immediate past Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, as the party’s governorship candidate.
Naijaonpoint recalls that Pantami recently dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) after Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna emerged as the party’s consensus governorship candidate in Gombe State.
Pantami cited concerns over the process that produced the APC candidate as part of the reasons for his decision to leave the party.
A few days after his defection, Pantami emerged as the PDP governorship candidate through a voice affirmation during the party’s primary election held on Tuesday ahead of the 2027 governorship election in the state.
However, speaking with journalists at his residence in Gombe, Saleh described Pantami’s emergence as an injustice against him and other aspirants.
According to Selah, the primary election, which was earlier scheduled for Sunday, was postponed to Tuesday, and he was surprised to learn that Pantami had emerged as the party’s candidate.
While urging his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding, Selah added that his legal team will challenge the outcome of the primary election.
He said, “While we were waiting for the primary election to be conducted last Sunday, it was suddenly announced that it was moved to Tuesday.
“Without any explanation from the party leadership, we woke up this morning to the news that Isa Pantami had emerged as the PDP governorship candidate.
“I condemn in the strongest terms what I consider an injustice against me and other aspirants. My legal team is already working on the matter, and we will seek redress through the appropriate legal channels.”
