The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Bashiru, has accused the Osun State Government of failing to deliver adequate value to residents despite increased revenues available to the state.
Bashiru made the claim on Monday during an interview on Beyond the Headlines with Abosede Adeniran Aderemi, ahead of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.
He said the increase in Federation Account allocations under the economic reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had made significant resources available to state governments.
According to him, the distributable pool stood at about N2.2 trillion in April 2026, N2.3 trillion in May and N2.5 trillion in June, compared with significantly lower figures during the corresponding period in 2023.
But Bashiru questioned the impact of the increased resources on the people of Osun.
“The question you ask yourself today is where are those resources going in terms of having meaningful impact on the people of Osun in terms of infrastructure development.”
The APC national secretary said he had personally observed infrastructure challenges during a visit to Osogbo, claiming that at least 19 roads required rehabilitation.
He also raised concerns about the education and health sectors, alleging that the state had a deficit of about 28,000 teachers.
“The education sector is a very critical sector that you need to deliver the dividend of democracy,” he said, adding that the sector required significant attention.
Bashiru further claimed that some primary healthcare centres established by a previous administration were no longer receiving adequate attention.
On infrastructure, he criticised what he described as cosmetic projects that did not necessarily address the state’s economic needs.
“There is a limit to which you can deceive people with cosmetic infrastructure.”
He argued that projects should be selected based on their contribution to economic development and the needs of residents.
“The agricultural sector is in comatose. The tourism sector is not being done,” Bashiru said.
He said the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, would prioritise the revitalisation of key sectors if elected.
According to Bashiru, the proposed APC administration would focus on education, infrastructure, agriculture and economic opportunities for artisans, traders and farmers.
He expressed confidence that the APC’s message of renewal would resonate with voters and lead to victory at Saturday’s election.
