Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have foiled an ambush by suspected bandits in Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State, recovering an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during the operation.
The Nigerian Army disclosed this in a statement posted on its X handle on Tuesday, August 11, saying the operation followed the arrest and interrogation of a suspected bandit.
According to the Army, the suspect provided information that led troops to Nwur Village to recover a weapon allegedly hidden by the criminal group.
The troops were escorting the suspect to the location when they came under attack from members of the suspected bandit syndicate.

“The troops responded with overwhelming firepower, neutralising one of the attackers as well as the arrested suspect who was caught in the ensuing firefight,” the Army said.
Following the encounter, the troops conducted an exploitation of the area and recovered one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine and two rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition reportedly abandoned by fleeing members of the group.
The Army said troops had continued exploitation operations in the area in an effort to track down and neutralise other members of the suspected bandit syndicate.
It reaffirmed the commitment of Operation ENDURING PEACE to preventing criminal groups from operating freely and protecting residents in the state.
“Operation ENDURING PEACE reaffirm its commitment to denying criminal elements freedom of action and ensuring the safety of law-abiding residents,” the statement said.
