Senator Shehu Buba Umar has officially emerged as the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 election in Bauchi State.
Senator Umar, who represents Bauchi South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, secured the ticket in Bauchi during a special delegates congress.
The primary election was decided through voice affirmation, which also finalized the nominations for several other elective positions.
The primary exercise was monitored and supervised by the PRP National Vice Chairman (North), Haruna Buhari.
Following the voice vote, Buhari officially declared the serving lawmaker as the validly elected flagbearer.
“Senator Shehu Buba Umar, having fulfilled all requirements of the law, the constitution of the PRP, and the electoral guidelines, I, Haruna Buhari, hereby declare Senator Shehu Buba Umar as the duly elected gubernatorial candidate of the PRP for the 2027 general election,” Buhari announced.
The National Vice Chairman congratulated Senator Shehu Buba, describing bing him as a formidable choice with a proven track record of winning elections.
Speaking earlier, the Bauchi State Chairman of the PRP, Abdulraham Muazu, stated that the party is strategically positioned to disrupt the political landscape and spring surprises in 2027.
Muazu noted that securing a candidate of Umar’s political acumen and legislative dexterity is a major win for the party.
He emphasized that even though the official window for electioneering campaigns has not yet opened, the PRP is fully organized and ready to face the Bauchi electorate.
In his acceptance speech, Senator Umar thanked the party leadership and delegates for trusting him with the mandate.
He disclosed that he has fully collapsed his entire political structure into the PRP, following his formal registration as a card-carrying member in his political ward within Toro Local Government Area.
Umar expressed strong optimism about his 2027 prospects, stating that the combined force of PRP members and overwhelming public goodwill would deliver victory.
He immediately charged the party’s youth and women wings to mobilize across communities and launch door-to-door enlightenment campaigns to promote the ideals of the PRP.
The congress also concluded with the affirmation of 31 candidates for the State House of Assembly, who were presented sequentially by the committee chairman and cleared by the delegates.
