FC Bayern Munich needed a stoppage-time intervention from Michael Olise to secure a dramatic 3-3 draw against FC Heidenheim, denying the visitors a historic Bundesliga upset at the Allianz Arena.
Despite dominating possession, Bayern were exposed by a clinical Heidenheim side. Budu Zivzivadze opened the scoring in the 22nd minute after reacting quickest to a loose ball in the box.
The visitors doubled their lead nine minutes later when Eren Dinkçi rounded the goalkeeper and finished calmly, capping a ruthless counter-attacking display.
Bayern, heavily rotated following their Champions League commitments, struggled for rhythm. However, Leon Goretzka pulled one back just before the break with a well-taken free kick to keep the hosts within reach.
Goretzka leads response before late drama
Manager Vincent Kompany reacted at half-time with key substitutions, introducing several first-team regulars.
The changes paid off quickly as Goretzka struck again in the 57th minute, turning in a corner to level the score at 2-2.
But Heidenheim refused to fold. Zivzivadze restored their lead in the 76th minute with a composed finish after a driving run, putting the underdogs within minutes of a famous victory.
Bayern pushed forward relentlessly in the closing stages, hitting the woodwork and increasing pressure on the visitors’ defence.
Olise breaks Heidenheim hearts
Deep into stoppage time, Olise delivered the decisive moment. His effort struck the post, rebounded off the goalkeeper, and crossed the line to make it 3-3 in the 100th minute.
The late equaliser salvaged a point for Bayern but highlighted defensive vulnerabilities, especially against counter-attacking opponents, as was the case against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League semi-final first leg.
For Heidenheim, the result will feel like a missed opportunity. After leading twice and executing their game plan effectively, they were seconds away from one of the biggest results in their history.
Bayern will now shift focus back to their European ambitions, where they face PSG in the Champions League semi-final second at the Allianz Arena.
