Obi also stated that he is not desperate to become Nigeria’s president, insisting that his primary concern is to see the country function effectively regardless of who occupies the office.
According to the former Anambra State governor, his interest is in ensuring that Nigeria works for its citizens through policies that promote economic growth, improve governance, and enhance the welfare of the people.
He said his political ambition is driven by a desire to contribute to national development rather than a personal quest for power.
The former governor made the remarks during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, where he discussed a range of issues affecting the country.
During the interview, Obi criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu, alleging that government policies have contributed to worsening economic conditions and increased hardship for many Nigerians.
He maintained that the policies introduced by the current administration have negatively affected businesses, reduced purchasing power, and made it increasingly difficult for many citizens to meet their daily needs.
According to Obi, the economic challenges facing the country have pushed more Nigerians into poverty since the current administration assumed office.
He claimed that the number of people living in poverty has increased significantly, arguing that the worsening economic situation is reflected in the experiences of ordinary citizens and business owners.
Obi stated that the country’s economic policies should be designed to create opportunities, encourage investment, and improve the standard of living rather than deepen financial hardship.
The NDC presidential candidate further alleged that the economic situation has become so difficult that some Nigerians who were previously successful in business have been forced to engage in small-scale trading to survive.
He cited the example of individuals who, according to him, are now selling kuli-kuli despite having once operated successful businesses.
Obi maintained that the current economic realities demonstrate the need for policies that stimulate production, create jobs, and support businesses in order to reverse the rising level of poverty across the country.
