The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has provided fresh updates on the ongoing trial of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, before the Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna.
In a statement signed by the Head, Media and Public Communications of the Commission, John Okor Odey, the anti-graft agency disclosed that proceedings on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, focused on an application seeking variation of the bail conditions earlier granted to the former governor.
According to the statement, the ICPC had earlier filed a 10-count charge against El-Rufai and Mr. Joel Adoga before Justice Rilwan Aikawa of the Federal High Court, Kaduna.
The charges, according to the Commission, border on alleged conversion and possession of proceeds of corruption as well as money laundering offences contrary to provisions of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, and other relevant laws.
Odey stated that both defendants had pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The ICPC spokesman recalled that the court had earlier admitted El-Rufai to bail in the sum of ₦200 million with two sureties in like sum, while the administrative bail earlier granted to the second defendant was adopted by the court.
According to the statement, Wednesday’s proceedings centred on El-Rufai’s motion seeking a variation of the existing bail conditions.
The Commission disclosed that Dr. Agada Akogwu appeared for the prosecution, while Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Oluwole Olaniyan, led the defence team.
According to Odey, the defence adopted its motion for variation of bail conditions while the prosecution adopted its counter-affidavit opposing the application.
Following arguments by both parties, Justice Aikawa adjourned the matter to Thursday, May 7, 2026, for ruling on the application.
The ICPC further disclosed that during proceedings, the defence counsel made a compassionate plea requesting that the court direct the Commission to allow the defendant access to medical treatment for dental and eye care in Abuja.
According to the statement, the court granted the request and directed the ICPC to convey El-Rufai under strict supervision to designated medical facilities, including Mile Dental Clinic and Skipper Eye-Q Hospital in Abuja, whenever necessary.
The court further ordered that the former governor be returned to custody immediately after receiving treatment.
Justice Aikawa reportedly emphasised that all movements relating to the medical visits must remain under strict supervision by the ICPC.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to complying fully with court orders while ensuring lawful custody of the defendant pending the fulfilment of bail conditions.
According to Odey, the ICPC also assured the public that the prosecution of the matter would continue diligently and in accordance with the law.
