Nigerian rapper Erhiga Agarivbie, popularly known as Erigga, has sparked a social media debate after praising musicians who built their careers without financial support from wealthy families.
In a post shared on his X account, Erigga (@erigganewmoney) wrote, “Shoutout to all the musicians who don’t come from family money and had to grind for every single dollar they earn.” …. did not directly mention any artiste, but it drew attention to the different backgrounds from which musicians have risen to prominence.
Afrobeats star Davido (@davido) subsequently quoted Erigga’s post and appeared to challenge the idea that musicians from wealthy families should receive less recognition for their achievements.
Davido responded, “No be we say make your pops no guard o. Shoutout to the ones that came from family money and still grind to the top.”

The exchange later became more heated, with Davido describing Erigga’s message as “useless motivation” and referring to the rapper as an “imbecile.”
Davido also appeared to hint at stepping away from music, writing, “No worry o I go soon leave their music for una go make my billions… then that shit gonna be boring AF.”
He followed up by asking, “Deep down, who like poverty?” His comments have since triggered mixed reactions on X, with some users defending Erigga’s original message while others backed Davido’s position that coming from family wealth does not erase the effort required to build a successful music career.
