The Ekiti State Government has disbursed N29 million as subvention to registered youth organisations and students’ associations across the state, in a move aimed at strengthening youth-driven development initiatives and civic participation.
The Commissioner for Youth Development, Gold Adedayo, announced the disbursement on Monday in Ado-Ekiti during the official presentation of cheques to beneficiary groups. He stated that the intervention was designed to support structured youth engagement, foster innovation and drive sustainable community impact through organised platforms.
Adedayo explained that the initiative aligns with the administration’s broader strategy to deepen grassroots development, expand youth empowerment opportunities and build resilient socio-economic networks within Ekiti State. According to him, the subvention scheme continues to serve as a policy instrument for enhancing youth inclusion in governance and development processes.
Providing a breakdown of beneficiaries, the commissioner listed organisations such as the Nigeria Youth Congress (NYC), Southern Nigeria Youth Congress (SNYC), Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN), Young Women in Politics (YWP), Peace Corps, Ekiti Youth Parliament (EYP), Anglican Youth Organisation (AYO), and the National Association of Polytechnic Students, Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti chapter. Others include student bodies from Ekiti State Polytechnic, Isan-Ekiti, as well as Otun Eminent Youth, among several groups captured under the disbursement framework.
He described the latest release as the fourth tranche of subvention to youth organisations in the state, noting that it underscores the administration’s sustained commitment to youth development and institutional support. Adedayo emphasised that young people remain central to the state’s long-term growth agenda.
“The subvention you are receiving today is a seed meant to drive meaningful projects, support organisational growth and enhance the welfare of your members,” he said, urging beneficiaries to demonstrate accountability and strategic utilisation of the funds.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth Development, Olawale Olaleye, commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji for approving the fourth tranche, describing it as a reflection of consistent policy direction on youth empowerment and engagement.
Responding on behalf of beneficiaries, the Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ekiti State chapter, Comrade Segun Bankole, expressed appreciation to the government and assured that the funds would be applied judiciously towards achieving defined developmental objectives across the benefiting organisations.
