.. says ‘I will respect the state’s governorship rotation’

A renowned technocrat and former General Manager of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria and the Transmission Company of Nigeria, Engr. Dr Chris Okonkwo, has formally declared his intention to run for the 2027 Enugu State Governorship Election on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Okonkwo who hails from Amurri Ancient Kingdom in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, made the declaration at a rally held at Royal Palace Hotel, Enugu. It was organised by his supporters.

The ADC gubernatorial aspirant who pledged to serve for one-tenure, said he would not alter the governorship zoning arrangement in the state for justice, equity and fairness.

According to the former President-General of the Senior Association of Electricity and Allied Companies, he would embark on massive, visible transformation in health, agriculture, education and security during his four- year-term.

“I am offering a clear honest agreement built on service and measurable progress within one tenure.

“My single tenure ending in 2031 will respect the state’s governorship rotation arrangement and allow a successor from Enugu West Senatorial District”, Okonkwo stated.

While faulting the current administration ‘external appearances over serving residents’, Okonkwo alleged that lack of basic amenities and harsh taxation have made life unbearable in the state.

“Enugu needs urgent rescue from inexperienced leaders. I condemn moves toward a one party system. It is anti-Semitic democratic and harmful to progress.

“I urge Ndi Enugu to back ADC as the only credible alternative to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as they have caused hardship to the people.
.
“My focus will be fixing healthcare and restoring safety. Governance must move from appearance to real impact. Democracy thrives on choice, accountability and leadership listens and responds to the people”, he stated.

Meanwhile, a political support group known as “Reality Is Here Movement” has declared its backing for Engr. Dr. Chris Okonkwo, described the Aspirant as an experienced technocrat capable of addressing key socio-economic challenges, including unemployment and poverty.

The group’s Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Onwe, said the declaration of the ADC Aspirant is a new phase in the state’s political landscape.

According to Onwe, the movement had put structures in place to mobilise support across the 17 local government areas and 260 political wards in the state, with the aim of Okonkwo securing the party’s ticket and building momentum ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

“Our structure is fully in place and operational across the state. We are committed to providing the necessary grassroots, logistical and strategic support required for Dr. Okonkwo to emerge as the ADC candidate,” Onwe said.
