A school teacher and mother of seven, Hajia Aisha Kende Dailla, has been left homeless after fire gutted her three-bedroom apartment in Lokoja, Kogi State.
The incident occurred around 3pm on Friday, August 28, 2026, at First 200 Units, along Mallam Hassan Road, near Wada Footballers Camp in the state capital.
The fire reportedly broke out shortly after electricity was restored to the area following a three-day blackout.
Residents and officials of the Federal Fire Service battled to contain the inferno, but the apartment and its contents were completely destroyed.
Dailla, a Lokoja indigene, said the fire began from the ceiling shortly after power was restored.
She suspected that a power surge triggered the incident.
According to the teacher, the fire destroyed household belongings, clothing, educational certificates, vital documents and other personal effects belonging to her five children and two other children under her care.
“I lost everything I have worked for over the years within a few minutes. My children and I are now homeless, with no food, no clothes and no means of survival,” she said.
She added that goods purchased on credit for her small-scale trading business were also consumed by the fire, further worsening her financial situation.
Dailla said she and the children had been struggling to find accommodation and meet their basic needs since the incident.
She appealed to the Kogi State Government, individuals, corporate organisations and other Nigerians to assist the family.
“I am calling on the Kogi State Government under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, as well as kind-hearted Nigerians, to come to my aid in this moment of despair,” she said.
