A Ghanaian man has caused a stir online after sharing a video of his unusual house pet, an African civet, a wild animal he says he caught himself from the forest and has since kept at home.
In the clip, the civet moves calmly around what appears to be a balcony or patio space, its distinctive spotted and striped coat clearly visible as it sniffs around near the man’s outstretched hand.
Instead of displaying the skittish, defensive behavior typically associated with wild animals encountering humans, the civet appears relatively at ease, approaching him without hesitation.
The sight of the animal, more commonly associated with dense forest habitats and known largely for its role in civet coffee production, being kept as a household pet has left many viewers both fascinated and concerned.
Comments beneath the video have ranged from admiration for the man’s boldness in taming a wild creature to questions about the legality and safety of keeping such an animal outside its natural environment.
